Spring Favorite

As I get ready for the spring I have been shopping around online for great shops with good spring pieces, and I found my ultimate favorite: Sal|Sit. They have the most amazing clothes for great prices and I cannot wait until I can get my hands on some of those pieces! This is definitely going to be my go-to site now.

Here are a few of my favorite items and how I would style them.

Favorites of the Week

So I was terribly, horridly, disgustingly sick this week. But thankfully I am feeling so much better now! Ah, the wonders prescription drugs will do for you in a matter of hours.

Anyways, I want to try to post at least once a week and since I have practically been dead this week and haven’t thought of a good, thoughtful post I figured do a ‘favorites’ post! This is just what has made my week bearable and things I used a lot this week. Here they are!

1 – Beanies! It has been unbelievably cold here this week, so I have been adorning one of these every time I step outside. Plus, they’re freaking adorable.

2 – Jeans! For the two days I felt good this week I wore my new jeans, which just arrived last week. The black Joni jeans are absolutely amazing, I never want to take them off (which is amazing considering I live in yoga pants). And my H&M ones are comfy too, I just need to hem the bottom and they will be perfect!

3 – Throat Lozenges! This is pretty obvious. I have been sick with some form of strep throat/cold/flu thing this week so I’ve gone through an entire bag of those already.

4 – Movies/TV Shows! This week I’ve been catching up on Scrubs (my favorite show) and I just watched We’re The Millers and I keep watching it over and over again! It is such a great movie, I can’t believe it took me this long to watch it.

5 – Music! SALUTE. This is my favorite album out right now from my favorite girls, Little Mix! This album has great jams, like Move and Salute, to dance along to but it also has beautiful slow songs, like Towers and These Four Walls, that get you in your feelings. The album really shows off their vocal abilities and how talented these ladies really are (for example the acapella intro to Boy, the harmonies in Little Me, Leigh-Anne’s high note in Little Me, and Perrie’s high note in About the Boy). If you haven’t bought it already, you need to. I promise you won’t regret it.

6 – Diamond Candle! My roommate has these candles and we have been using hers a lot lately, but I finally decided to get my own, and I’m so glad I did! I got ‘Watermelon Wedge’ and oh my god. Our room smells incredible and I’m pretty sure if I weren’t deathly ill, my suitemates would have sat in my room all the time this week just to smell the candle. It is that good. And the best part is when the candle melts enough and you can get the ring! It’s so much fun just to wait for the ring and then finally reach it, it’s like a little gift. Seriously, you need to get one of these candles.

I have never done anything like this but I hope you enjoyed! I wish I could’ve done something more, but I just don’t have the energy and its 1:30 am here.

Lots of Love!

A Look Back On: My First Semester

my first semester

As I get into the swing of things for my second semester, I want to take this Saturday to reflect on my first semester. It had a lot of ups and downs, twists and turns, and I learned so much. Let’s take a look back, shall we?

Considering the course calendars I have for this semester, my first semester was a piece of cake in terms of classes. All of my teachers were amazing (even Jason, my 8 am Philosophy & Ethical Reasoning professor). I didn’t have assignments on assignments over the weekend, 5 chapters to read in one night, or an 8 page paper due in two days. And finals weren’t as catastrophic as people made them out to be (although I did go a little coo-coo on 4 hours of sleep and 3 cups of coffee while studying for my GPHIL final). So I had a good semester, considering my classes. But the thing that made my semester so amazing wasn’t the classes, it was everything else.

I went out on the weekends and let myself go a little crazy, watched Netflix all day, and stayed in bed as much as I wanted. I met so many people, especially the people who I know will be there for me as long as I need them. I’ve made memories with my friends that I couldn’t have ever made back at home. I wouldn’t trade my first semester for anything in the world.

But what is the most absolute, time-stopping, life-altering, best thing about my first semester (and college)? Freedom.

That’s right, the best thing about my first semester was having the freedom to make whatever choices I wanted. Granted they weren’t all great choices, but they all taught me something. Skipping my classes to watch Netflix or catch up on (more) sleep wouldn’t be good for my grades. Staying in bed as much as possible and having snacks all the time would lead to a little more pounds on the belly. But they taught me I can’t watch Netflix and eat all the time, which I’m glad I don’t do anymore.

See, that’s the thing they usually don’t tell you about what you learn in college. You learn so much responsibility and how to make good decisions for yourself without your parents to fall back on. You have this amazing new-found freedom, but you learn to be wise with it. You learn that sometimes you have to skip a few parties to get ahead on class readings; watch a little less Netflix to finish that research paper and get a reasonable amount of sleep without skipping classes; or opt for a colorful salad instead of the crispy chicken sandwich with greasy fries.

When you’re in college, you’re an adult and you don’t have anyone to fall back on. It’s new and scary, but it is all worth it. From all I’ve learned and the memories I’ve made, I’d have to say I had the best first semester anyone could have.
